ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY
Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, being the most coveted specialty in dentistry, bridges the gap between dental specialty and other medical specialties like Plastic Surgery and Oncosurgery. The department is rich with an amalgamation of experienced, efficient and sincere faculty with immense energy and enthusiasm. The department is providing excellent training program to students and continuous services to the common man.
The three-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program is designed to meet the requirement to match national and international levels that indulge didactic academic and clinical exposure in all the fields of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, namely:
- MINOR DENTO-ALVEOLAR PROCEDURES.
- BASIC & ADVANCED IMPLANTOLOGY including DIRECT & INDIRECT SINUS LIFT PROCEDURES, RIDGE AUGMENTATIOIN & BASAL IMPLANTOLOGY.
- HEAD and NECK INFECTIONS.
- MAXILLOFACIAL TRAUMA.
- TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT DISORDERS - TMJ ANKYLOSIS, INTERNAL DERANGEMENTS
- Various Pathologies including CYST and TUMORS.
- RHINOPLASTY – Functional and aesthetic.
- ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY.
- DISTRACTION OSTEOGENESIS.
- CLEFT LIP AND PALATE SURGERIES
- ORAL CANCER and RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERIES.
The Post Graduate Students:
- Learn and perform O.P.D duties, Pre-Operative and Post-Operative management of the patients admitted in the Maxillofacial Surgery Ward.
- Perform various essential ward procedures like PARENTERAL DRUG ADMINISTRATION, PLACEMENT OF RYLE’S TUBE, URINARY CATHETER, INTRAVENOUS FLUID ADMINISTRATION, BLOOD TRANSFUSION and DRESSINGS
- Carry out various Pre-Clinical activities like SUTURING TECHNIQUES on linen cloth, WIRING TECHNIQUES on plaster cast, SPLINT PREPARATION in lab, WIRING and PLATING TECHNIQUES on dry skull.
- The postgraduate students perform various MINOR and MAJOR MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERIES under the supervision of faculty members. Decision making and self-confidence is inculcated in the postgraduates that help them out in their practice in future.
- In addition, the postgraduates prepare and present SCIENTIFIC PRESENTATIONS at STATE, NATIONAL and INTERNATIONAL LEVEL SCIENTIFIC MEETINGS.
- The department is bestowed with excellent infrastructure with MODERN SURGICAL EQUIPMENTS, MINOR and MAJOR OPERATION THEATRES, SEPARATE MALE and FEMALE WARDS, 24- HOURS TRAUMA CENTRE with ICU at the MULTI-SPECIALTY 250 BEDDED DR. OP CHAUDHARY HOSPITAL & RESEARCH CENTRE located within the campus.
Apart from training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the department, the residents are trained to conduct RESEARCH WORK in the department and publish in prestigious journals. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department has also added another feather to its cap by signing a MOU with CSIR – INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TOXICOLOGY & RESEARCH and CENTER OF BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH, LUCKNOW providing an excellent platform for students to conduct Research Projects.
The Department frequently collaborates with the SANJAY GANDHI POST GRADUATE INSTITUTE and DR. RAM MANOHAR LOHIYA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES for mutual learning and patient benefit.
Additionally, the residents of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery acquire vast amount of exposure in various medical specialties and super specialties by allied peripheral postings in the departments of PLASTIC SURGERY, NEUROSURGERY, ONCOLOGY, ANAESTHESIA and EMERGENCY MEDICINE, GENERAL SURGERY, ORTHOPEDICS, ENT, OPHTHALMOLOGY, GENERAL MEDICINE, RADIO-DIAGNOSIS etc. at the prestigious DR. RAM MANOHAR LOHIYA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, LUCKNOW.
The alumni of the department have made tremendous progress in the field of maxillofacial surgery, and are placed at various prestigious academic institutes across the country as Faculty members, Senior Residents, Fellows etc.
The Department has organized numerous National Conferences, CDE Programs and Workshops in the past decade, like the 10th NATIONAL TRIPLE “O” SYMPOSIUM, Workshop on BASIC LIFE SUPPORT, FACE WORKSHOP OF ORTHODONTICS and ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY for FACIAL TRANSFORMATION and ADVANCED CARDIAC RESUSCITATION COURSE to name a few.
The department has been given the responsibility of conducting the 6th ANNUAL STATE CONFERENCE OF UPAOMSI 2021 owing to the continuous hard work and dedicated approach to excellence in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
