B.D.S. CURRICULUM

AGE:

A candidate must have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or should be completing it by the 31st December of the year of Admission for the 5 year degree course of B.D.S.

QUALIFICATION AND ADMISSION CRITERIA:

As per Government of India Guidelines all candidates must have qualified the National Entrance Eligibility Test (NEET). The NEET UG 2020 eligibility criteria is the set of norms prescribed by the conducting authority, i.e. the National Testing Agency (NTA). In order to be eligible for NEET, candidates must qualify 12th class examination with Chemistry, Biology, Physics and English subjects. For General category candidates, it is mandatory to score 50% marks in 12th grade, whereas SC/ST/OBC category candidates must score 40% marks to become eligible for NEET 2020.

DURATION OF THE COURSE:

The Undergraduate Training Program is of 5 years. During this period, the student is required to be engaged in full time study as per the Norms laid by the Dental Council of India.

METHODS OF TRAINING:

The training of the Undergraduate Students shall be full time. The participation of the students in all facets of Education process is essential. Training should include involvement in Laboratory Work, Group Discussions, Pre-Clinical Exercises and Clinics, with graded responsibilities in the management and treatment of Patients entrusted to his/her care.

FIFTH YEAR

DENTAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The duration of compulsory rotatory internship shall be of one year: -

PERIOD OF POSTINGS:

I.            Oral Medicine & Radiology: 1 Month

II.            Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery: 1 & ½ Months

III.            Prosthodontics: 1 & ½ Months

IV.            Periodontics: 1 Month

V.            Conservative dentistry & Endodontics: 1 Month

VI.            Pedodontics: 1 Month

VII.            Orthodontics: 1 Month

VIII.            Community Dentistry/ Rural Services: 3 Months

IX.            Oral Pathology & Microbiology: 15 days


ATTENDANCE, PROGRESS & CONDUCT:

  • Students should be regular and punctual in attending the classes and clinics.
  • Attendance should not be less than 75% in lecture and 75% in clinics and practical for appearing the university examinations.
  • Students shall not be certified for examination if his/her progress, conduct and attendance are not satisfactory. A candidate pursuing BDS course should work in all the concerned department of the institution as per delineated as a full time student.
  • Academic progress of the student is continuously monitored and there will be periodic internal assessment by STUDENTS PERFORMANCE EVALUATION COMMITTEE (SPEC) and professional examination.
  • No candidate is permitted to run a clinic or work in clinic/ laboratory/nursing home while pursuing the undergraduate course.

MARKS DISTRIBUTION in each SUBJECT at UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION:

Each subject shall have a maximum of 200 marks:

THEORY: 100 Marks

 

PRACTICAL/ CLINICAL : 100 Marks

University written exam:  70 marks

Viva Voce:                           20 Marks

Internal Assessment
(Written):                             10 Marks

 

University Exam:         90 marks

Internal Assessment
(Practical):                     10 Marks
