CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY & ENDODONTICS

The primary objective of this program is to impart the highest quality of education to our students and shape them such that they are able to achieve academic excellence. The department engages them in research and trains them to provide the best oral health care and creative endeavors to improve the health of the highly diverse populations in Lucknow city and in the nearby areas of the state. The Post-Graduation program is a three year accredited, advanced and holistic education program that offers a Masters degree in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics.

The main concern of this program is to give an excellent future to our students by thorough preparation for careers in specialty clinical practice and academics. The department is always on a progressing front with respect to research. The program emphasizes on Diagnosis & Treatment planning, applied basic science, Patient care, Ethical behaviour and sound Practice Management, Rehabilitation of diseased, defective or destructed tooth, Treatment of Pulp and Peri-radicular diseases, Endodontic surgery and related treatments and Specialized endodontic procedures under magnification.

Our department is well equipped with world class facilities like MODERNISTIC MICROSURGICAL UNIT with HIGH END OPERATING MICROSCOPE, State of the art CERAMIC LABORATORY, DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARY, Departmental Radiology section (RVG), Presence of latest equipments like ELECTRONIC APEX LOCATOR, ENDO MOTOR, ELECTRONIC PULP TESTER, ROTARY INSTRUMENTS, INSTRUMENT RETRIEVAL SYSTEM, AMALGAMATOR, recently introduced ROOT CANAL OBTURATION SYSTEMS, “FLASH” STERILIZERS and ULTRA-SONIC CLEANERS.

      The students are initially made to practice on PHANTOM HEADS in a state of the art Skills Lab which enables the students to mimic real time patient care and brush up their clinical skills and experiences. Conventional and conservative techniques, principles and concepts are involved in the early program. Weekly journal club meetings and Clinical-theoretical seminars are conducted to keep the students updated about current researches. Case analyses are done on a regular basis to keep the students abreast with latest treatment modalities. In addition to these, diagnosis and treatment planning are covered during their lectures.

Clinical activity is described in a way that our postgraduates are exposed to various conservative and endodontic procedures and techniques, such as: -

1. MICRO ENDODONTIC PROCEDURES- Endodontic surgeries, Separated Instrument retrieval, Negotiation of Missed Canals.
2. GUIDED TREATMENT- CAD-CAM guided RCT, VENEERS and AUTO- TRANSPLANTATION, CBCT imaging system is used for diagnosis of missed canal and for surgical procedures.
3. RESTORATIONS-Amalgam, Composites, GIC, Inlay/Onlay/ Sheronlay, Gold restorations (Most advanced restorative material available worldwide).
4. ENDODONTIC PROCEDURES- Single visit Endodontics, Re-treatment (performed under magnification).
5. ESTHETIC DENTAL PROCEDURES- Componeers, Veneers, Lumineers, Thineers.
6. POST ENDODONTIC PROCEDURES- Post & Core, Crowns (Zirconia, Metal, Dowel crowns, All ceramic crowns, Endo Crowns and PFM).
7. SURGICAL PROCEDURES- Hemisection, Radisection, Bicuspidization,Periapical surgeries.
8. SPECIALIZED TREATMENT- Bleaching, Revascularization, One Step Apexification, Treatment of Root and Crown Fractures.

The Department also conducts regular CDE Programs inviting stalwarts from the field of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics who appraise the students of the Latest Advancements prevailing in the field. The Postgraduates are encouraged to attend International, National, State Conferences, Continuing Dental Education programs and Conventions where they present their Research papers and posters. An original research project is conducted, presented to the faculty, ethical committee and peers; and published as thesis by each and every Post Graduate student.Various Articles are published in Indexed and UGC approved journals by students under guidance of our faculty members.

The program emphasizes on diagnosis and treatment of dental diseases. Most advance methods of international standards are used in conservative manner for restoring the teeth to full function in an aesthetically pleasing manner. Special emphasis is laid on participating and conducting continuing professional development program to enrich and enhance professional knowledge through high quality multidisciplinary approach. The program encourages the residents to deal with variety of simple to complicated cases and serve humanity.

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at Sardar Patel Post Graduate Institute of Dental and Medical Sciences, Lucknow, is being run by a team of highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members, who are highly committed to impart the highest quality of education to students and shape them to be good professionals.
